Book Description:

My name is Taylor, and damn but my life changed overnight. One moment I was just a regular girl working two jobs to pay my bills, and next thing you know, I'm uncovering secret metal disks at my boss's house. Now I'm reading minds, dream-walking and being saved from bad guys by Mr. Dark and Brooding.
That would be Ryder Langston, my new next-door neighbor. He's sex on legs but he's also a secret agent from another world—no joke. I believe him now because he dragged me back here "for my protection" after he discovered someone was trying to assassinate me on Earth. It isn't working out so well.
There's a war going on, one that's been fought for generations. Ryder's having trust issues (not that it's stopping us from falling into bed), and it turns out I'm connected here, if you know what I mean. The target on my back finally makes sense, but there's nowhere left to hide…

Go Series or Go Solo: What Do You Prefer?

Books of the heart come in all shapes, sizes and genres. I’m always on the hunt for a great read, whether it be a stand-alone or part of a series. Finding great literature is exciting, and gives me a sense of giddiness, because a good book is a treasure. The story and the characters stay with you long after you finish the last page. However, while I don’t specifically look for books that are part of a series, I love when I hit on a good one. There are so many reasons to hook into a series.
Think of the rich, complex world from the trilogy Lord of the Rings. The world Tolkien created had depth. Layers were carefully crafted, cultures designed, settings within settings elaborately described with fantastic peoples and creatures. It took the reader time and patience to enter this world, become familiar with it, love it and follow faithfully through the epic story of good vs. evil. Imagine getting less than the four books - prequel The Hobbit and the trilogy. Wouldn’t readers have felt cheated? When I’ve spent time and energy on a truly worthy book, learning a whole new world with multiple nations and cultures and their unique politics, I don’t want to leave too soon. That kind of book will have me coming back again and again. To give a few more modern examples, I’m a big fan of Christine Feehan’sGhostwalkersseries and Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark. Every time I get a chance to reenter one of their worlds, it’s like pulling on my favorite warm, fluffy sweater. The worlds they’ve created give me a feeling of warmth and comfort, the way you feel going into the home of a good friend. I understand them. I know the rules, and by being so familiar, I can participate more. It allows me to anticipate what might happen, bask in the excitement of suspense and engage myself one hundred percent.
Characters are like old friends. In a series, when a character truly touches you, it’s an exciting jolt to see them in the next book and continue experiencing them in their literary world. Often in a series, authors have created well-rounded supporting characters withintriguing back stories. These charactersusually end up with their own stories, or you hope they do. When writers create stories that all connect to each other, the reader has the chance to become more emotionally invested. It’s a win-win situation.
I wanted to create a series that interconnected for these reasons. Quicksilver Dreams is the first of five in the Dreamwalker series. My kick*ss, spunky heroine, Taylor Lane, is in for a big surprise when she realizes her sexy new neighbor, Ryder Langston, has secrets that are literally out of this world. In the second book tentatively titled, Dreams of a Wild Heart, she has specific cameo appearances throughout. She, as well as other characters, will be threaded throughout all of the stories. I want readers to get to know them all, love them, and want to keep cheering them on.

About the Author:

Danube Adele wrote her first romance at the age of seven when she penned the story of her dogs falling in love and having puppies. She’s been dreaming up romantic tales ever since. A lifetime resident of southern California, she spends time playing at the beach, camping in Joshua Tree National Park, and hiking Mammoth Mountain.

Always a lover of adventure, she and her husband took their sons on a cross country road trip to Florida and back in an old VW Westfalia, that had no A/C, in the month of July, and still, it continues to be the best trip they ever took. Extensive travel and trying new things has kept the creative spark alive. Danube lives in Claremont with her biggest fans, her loving husband, amazing and wonderful identical twin sons, and a teddy bear of a Rottweiler.

Her debut novel, Quicksilver Dreams, Book 1 of the Dreamwalker series was officially released January 6, 2014.

I love seeing "old friends" characters in subsequent books in a series. I feel like I'm in on a secret that people who haven't read the earlier books aren't in on. It's like every appearance is sort of like an inside joke.

I agree that reading a book in a familiar series can feel comfortable and warm. I definitely feel that way about Agatha Christie's Poirot mysteries, as well as the Bridgertons series by Julia Quinn. Great post!
