Description:
Katherine Bonner with the golden eyes and a golden, enchanted life is well on her way to becoming a horse whisperer. Tall, athletic, she loves to ride, and she can usually exact good behavior from most wild steed, except from Pierce who bucks her at every crack of the whip.
Pierce is top honcho in charge of the fifteen hundred acre ranch, Bonner-Willow. Although he owns a Master’s in business administration, he loves to be around horses. He considers himself more of a cowboy than a CEO.
When Kat becomes the bearer of unexpected news about her past from ex-convict, ex-lawyer Victor Horn, she wonders how she will ever find her roots and manage to put the pieces of her life back together again. She turns to Pierce, the dark hair and blue eyed hunk whom Kat believes, thinks he is God's gift to women.
Pierce reluctantly agrees to help, partly for reasons of his own. He worries about his lawyerly father being involved with Victor's murder. As Pierce and Kat travel to Chicago together, they walk right into a criminal investigation headed by two bumbling detectives. Kat makes a date with a potential serial killer, and Pierce, whose affection for Kat is slowly changing to one of deeper commitment, worries about her safety. Meanwhile, Kat bumps into a doppelganger she believes is stalking her, only to discover that no one else ever sees her.
Mirror Deep uncovers many twists and turns designed to keep the reader guessing until the end. Through all the action, Pierce remains by Kat's side. Will he be able to hide from Kat his mounting desire? Will Kat find who this look alike is and why she is trying to warn her? Does Kat follow a stranger to Paris, France simply to put miles between her and Pierce or to avoid the threat of a potential killer?
Pierce took Kat on a tour of the hotel. They stopped at the gift shop along the way, where he bought her a little souvenir bracelet for which he paid much more than its worth.
“Pierce, this is not the purchase of a wise investor,” she scolded him, peeking at the glow in his eyes.
“Who said love was wise,” he whispered.
She couldn’t hide the tremor that washed over her. Shock turned her legs to putty.
He smiled to alleviate the awkward pause between them. “We have to look like lovers, remember? We never know who is watching.”
Her eyes narrowed as the meaning behind the words dawned on her. Upset he could so easily yank her chain, she stepped on his foot, taking pleasure in mashing the toes inside the Bruno Magli loafers. She drew back, head high, chin up—hoping she had wiped the smugness off his face.
His smile was gone. “What the hell was that for?” His blue eyes probed hers as he moved the bruised toes inside his shoe.
“A man should never mock love to a woman, Pierce. Not a good idea. And since I couldn’t slap your face—you never know who is watching—I stepped on your toes. Now you know how it feels.”

Interview
Hello Joss, I am so happy you stopped by. Now, to start, what inspired you to write "Mirror Deep"?
Difficult to say what one thing inspires me to write a story. Almost as though stories are like flowers and every now and then they grow inside my head until they are a force to be reckoned with. Like plants and flowers, they evolve from seeds brought there through all sorts of life experiences. For instance, we raised horses for a while, and my children were in the Pony Club while we lived on a hobby farm. We got to know the horsey set. My first husband was adopted and found out late in life, which led to all kinds of traumas, etc.
How would you describe the story to someone who hasn't read it yet?
A mystery involving Katherine Bonner finding out that the parents she has loved all her life, did not give her life. The lawyer who comes to tell her is murdered, so she needs to recruit the help of her second cousin Pierce to help her find her roots. While she loves her parents and the only life she’s ever known, she is determined to discover this other family. What she finds is more mystery than she bargained for, and she will need to rely on Pierce in order to save her life.

Describe Kat and Pierce in 3 words each.
Kat: horse-whisperer, determined, beautiful
Pierce: Hunk, kind, dependable.
What scene did you have the most fun writing?
I enjoyed them all. One of them is the scene in Chapter 12 when Kat can’t sleep and gets up in the middle of the night to go to the barn.
Why?
As she confides her troubles to Fog Mist, the big gray gelding she is training for the dressage event, a tender and touching moment, I loved the memories it brought back for me having tended my horses in the middle of the night more than once. One of the scenes taking place while Kat is there has to do with Jake and Pierce’s girlfriend. It’s a doozy.
Why do you write mystery/thriller?
Why do you write mystery/thriller?
I guess I possess a tortuous mind and I love to foreshadow and plant clues here and there. I never write anything for no reason. You will find clues throughout my book and I love to do this … like a little map.
Do you listen to music while you write?
Do you listen to music while you write?
Not all the time; depends on the movie running through my head. Mirror Deep did bring Gordon Lightfoot’s music to mind and I played it often as he is Pierce’s favorite singer, and Pierce has the same honey toned voice as Gordon has, accompanying himself with his guitar.
Did you always want to be an author?
Did you always want to be an author?
No. I wrote diaries all my life, began reading when I was seven, books with no pictures, and I guess this served me well. First I read in French, then in my teen years I began reading in English. Only once my kids were grown up because I had more time on my hands did I begin writing.
Does your family read your books?
Does your family read your books?
Yes, they do. My husband loves my books and actually reads two to three books a week and is one of the best editors around. He is especially good with plot holes or discrepancies, and he will find the smallest one without fail.
Can you tell me some of your favorite authors?
Can you tell me some of your favorite authors?
John Grisham, Danielle Steele, Pat Conroy, P.D. James … There are so many of them.
How about books?
Same. Mystery and suspense, any story with a good romantic thread, and sweet paranormal content, clean books, though. I don’t like excessive violence or cruelty. Nothing with vampires or darkness; love sunny disposed stories. You are dealing with someone who never saw Braveheart, the movie; and I love movies. The three Matrix were my favorite movies.
What are you currently working on?
What are you currently working on?
I’ve just finished last edits on “Long Goodbyes”, a mystery romance that takes place at Johns Hopkins University. It could also pass for a women’s fiction type novel. Four women’s lives are interrupted by long goodbyes. They all mesh together in one way or another and two of them will team up to solve one mystery on the way to getting their lives back on track. Candice Newman is my main character.

I've been liking mystery books more and more lately. You add in some romance and it's even better!
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a TV show person. I enjoy some movies, but I prefer something a bit quicker. I wish there were more good sitcoms playing these days.
